Hit Like A Girl 2012 is the first ever drumming contest for girls and women, aiming to seek, support and celebrate the impact of female drummers on contemporary music and the worldwide drumming community.
The online competition, hosted at www.hitlikeagirl2012.com, is open to female drumset players of all ages, levels, types and styles from anywhere in the world.
Are You Girl Enough? So if you're female and love drumming, submit a 3-5 minute performance video from February 1 through March 31, 2012. Don’t forget to include a brief, written description of your influences and/or reasons for drumming.
All video entries will be posted on the Hit Like A Girl 2012 YouTube channel. The winners will be announced May 1.
Jury of drum professionals For the final rounds, the top videos will be judged by a stellar panel of female drum artists, including drumming legend Sheila E, Jess Bowen (The Summer Set), Susie Ibarra (Mundo Niños), Dawn Richardson (4 Non-Blondes), Kim Thompson (Beyoncé) and more to be announced.
Judging criteria will include technique, time, feel, creativity, personality, passion and showmanship. Fans, friends and drum enthusiasts from around the world will have the opportunity to vote for their favorites in the preliminary rounds through YouTube viewer rankings.
Hit Like A Girl is sponsored by leading drum equipment manufacturers Crush Drums, Evans skins, TRX Cymbals, Vater drumsticks and SKB cases, along with major drum media companies.
Prizes: what can you win? Contest prizes will feature a complete drum and cymbal set along with sticks, heads, cases and a variety of other accessories and merch totaling over $10,000.
Winners will also be featured in Drum! and Tom Tom magazines while Drum Channel will host the final round of video competition and is planning special programming.
