Born in Lewisham, London, Ginger made his first recording in 1957 with Acker Bilk and continued to play on the local Jazz circuit in bands with various musicians such as Terry Lightfoot, Burt Courtly, Less Douglas and Diz Disley. He later became one of the resident musicians at the prestigious and now world famous Ronnie Scott\'s Jazz Club. Ginger went on to join Alexis Korner\'s Blues Incorporated in 1962 and subsequently moved on to The Graham Bond Trio in February 1963, where he played with bassist Jack Bruce. The two then joined famed guitarist Eric Clapton (from John Mayall\'s Blues Breakers) in the summer of 1966 to form Cream, one of the most successful and influential British blues-rock groups ever. Ginger made recording history with Cream. The group went on to attain five gold albums and it was one of the first bands ever to receive a platinum disc (one million plus). Ginger\'s drumming talent and innovative skills set a new standard for rock drummers throughout the world. When Cream disbanded in November 1968, Baker helped form \"Blind Faith\" with Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, and Rick Grech. The group lasted for one album and tour in 1969, but nevertheless made their mark on history.
In 1970, Baker formed Ginger Baker\'s Air Force, which recorded two albums. He formed The Baker Gurvitz Army with Adrian and Paul Gurvitz in 1974, and they made three albums. At the end of the decade, he had such groups as Energy and Ginger Baker\'s Nutters and played with Hawkwind and Atomic Rooster.
In 1982, famed producer Bill Laswell, asked Ginger to play on the first self titled PIL\"(Public Image Limited) album with John Lydon of Sex Pistols infame. In 1986, Ginger worked again with producer Laswell on a solo album on entitled \"Horses and Trees\". Ginger recorded a number of instrumental albums before reuniting with Jack Bruce in 1994. The power-trio of Masters of Reality was short lived and Baker returned to jazz-fusion by the end of the year with the worldbeat styled album \"Going Back Home\". Two years later, he released \"Falling of the Roof\" which he recorded with Charlie Haden and Bill Frisell. In 1999, Ginger released his solo CD \"Coward of the County\" which features his multi-piece band \"DJQ2O\".
