In August/September of 2003, I went out on my 2nd little mini tour. I did four gigs back east and three gigs on the West Coast. For the gigs on the West Coast, I took my very good friend and one of my favorite guitarists, Rick Musallam. Rick played on my solo record KARMA, plays in the Mike Keneally Band with me, and also went with me on my first little mini tour back in 2002. Along with the tremendous help of Gruno and Barry Kimmel, the tour culminated with a gig at Imusicast up in Oakland, CA. We were able to film and record that show. So, my friend from way back, Stan Ausmus, who you may know from the last Spock's record "Feel Euphoria" (he co-wrote a couple of songs), is a fantastic video editor and put together this DVD.
The DVD and CD are slightly different. The main show is just about the same as you can see from the song lists. It's the bonus stuff that makes the difference. On my first mini tour in 2002, Rick and were doing our "let's make a whole band out of two people" thing. The board tape from our Bottom Line show in NYC turned out pretty darn good, so I thought it would be cool to include some selections from that gig.
The DVD has some really fun bonus footage that's different from the CD. There are a couple of funny bits. A drum solo from my gig in Lowell, MA, where the drummer for the band that opened the show was gracious enough to let me beat his drums for a minute. I played at the Prog Day festival in Chapel Hill, NC and there was a kit on stage, so I decided to play the song "Karma" on drums. And finally, there's a fun version of "Long Distance Runaround" by Yes, performed by me and Mike Keneally from Victor's By the Bay in San Diego, CA.
