The history of the Golden Earring starts in 1961, although the band with Rinus Gerritsen and George Kooymans, among others, is still called The Tornado's. Two years later the name is changed to The Golden Earrings, and another two years later the band from The Hague, now supplemented by singer Frans Krassenburg and drummer Jaap Eggermont, has its first hit with Please Go. In 1967 Krassenburg is replaced by Barry Hay and in 1969 the classic Earring line-up is complete when ex-Livin 'Blues Cesar Zuiderwijk takes the place behind the drum set. During the 25 years since Please Go, the band with the name shortened to Golden Earring has numerous hits with songs such as Back Home, Buddy Joe, Radar Love, Bombay, Weekend Love, Long Blond Animal, Twilight Zone, Going To The Run and Yes! We're On Fire. And they are all among the 39 songs on the double compilation The Devil Made Us Do It.
