The Tyrants (EP)
Jag Panzer
Book 1983
Azra Records
release notes
Lineup:
Harry 'The Tyrant' Conklin - Vocals
Mark Briody - Guitar, Keyboards, Backing Vocals
Joey Tafolla - Guitar
John Tetley - Bass
Rick Hilyard - Drums
Tyrants Trivia:
The e.p. originally had no title. An underground fanzine coined the name 'The Tyrant's e.p.' and the name
stuck.
/>
The song 'The Crucifix' was supposed to be on the e.p. (it appeared on an earlier demo). However the
band couldn't find a suitable acoustic guitar so the song was held off until 'Ample Destruction'.
The battle sounds at the end of 'Iron Shadows' are actually the band members hitting real swords together.
But the chainmail sounds at the beginning of the song are a set of car keys tied to Harry's shoes!
The growling f/x at the end of 'Metal Melts the Ice' took longer to mix then all the songs put together.
In certain parts of the world this album was sold in a paper bag because the cover was considered obscene.
A horror television show hostess in the Midwest held up the album cover on TV and joked 'This must be
my sister'.
If you own the original vinyl, look for the hidden message in the inner track.
