Black Sounds of Freedom (Extended Version) is a comprehensive digital and 2-CD reissue of Black Uhuru's debut album, originally titled Love Crisis (1977). This extended 2009 release includes 34 tracks, featuring the original vocal tracks, their corresponding dubs by Prince Jammy, and deejay versions by U-Black. 

The Musicians
The album features the earliest incarnation of the "Waterhouse" sound, backed by members of the Aggrovators and Revolutionaries: 

• Vocals: Michael Rose, Derrick "Duckie" Simpson, and Errol "Jay" Wilson.


• Drums: Sly Dunbar and Carlton "Santa" Davis.


• Bass: Robbie Shakespeare and Fully Fullwood.


• Guitars: Earl "Chinna" Smith (Lead), Bo-Peep Bowen (Lead), and Bingy Bunny (Rhythm).


• Keyboards: Winston Wright (Organ/Clavinet), Gladstone Anderson (Piano), and Keith Sterling (Piano).


• Strings: Earl "Wire" Lindo.


• Harmonica: Johnny Osbourne.


• Percussion: Scully Sims.


• Horns: Bobby Ellis (Trumpet), Headley Bennett (Saxophone), and Cedric Brooks (Saxophone). 

Production & Evolution

• Prince Jammy: Produced, engineered, and mixed the original sessions at Harry J's and King Tubby's.


• The "Extended" Difference: While the 1977 Love Crisis was the raw debut, the 1981 Black Sounds of Freedom version featured additional brass and keyboard overdubs and a full remix. The Extended Version aggregates all these mixes along with 10 dubs and multiple "Love Crisis Mixes".
