After the successful (live) collaboration between Music for Speakers acts SONAR LODGE and RELAXO ABSTRACTO with Belgian trumpeteer BART MARIS (initiated by Dutch production company MUZIEKLAB), the need was felt to further explore their musical possibilities and take the concept of integrating live instruments into a sound-oriented approach to songwriting to a higher plane. SANDOR CARON and RICHARD VAN KRUYSDIJK took it upon them to formulate their ideal music and finding the ideal musicians to create it. The outcome is the multi-national sextet MUSIC FOR SPEAKERS AMPLIFIED. They now present their debut album ‘POPULAR MUSIC MUST END’.
MUSIC
The wellknown trademark moodyness of Music for Speakers comes in many forms on this CD: From crackling jazz drumming and warm alto clarinet sounds to spiralling guitar melodies over deep, dubby beats and subtle vocals. From deranged, atmospheric soundscapes to post-rockish guitar licks and glitching clicks ‘n’ cuts. From jazzy Rhodes playing (by guest Jeroen van Vliet) to playful analog synth sounds.
Partially rooted in dance-orientated electronic music, and partially in jazz, the six musicians of MUSIC FOR SPEAKERS AMPLIFIED link improvisational and technical skills to the ‘sound’-oriented approach of electronic music.
MUSIC FOR SPEAKERS AMPLIFIED takes the idea of popsongs to the edge, and frequently leave them hanging over an abyss of sound and unconventional melodies.
