“Grupo Chaworo” was formed in October 2001 by Chembo Corniel whom in the music world of Latin, Jazz, Pop music, Salsa and World music has performed with the greats of these forms of music, such as Tito Puente, Machito, Hilton Ruiz, Dave Valentin,
Grady Tate, Angela Bofill, Bob Baldwin, just to name a few. ChemboÂ’s experience spans over 35 years in performing, touring and recording with almost everyone in New York and around the world. Now itÂ’s time for Chembo Corniel to lead his Latin Jazz Quintet and be the next generation of young veterans to carry the tradition and culture.
Chembo formed a record company in 2004 (Chemboro Records, Inc.) and started producing his own CD’s. The first CD “Portrait In Rhythms” with special guests Steve Wilson, Ray Vega, Carla Cook. The second CD “For The Rest Of Your Life” has been released in June, 2007 with special guest Mr. Grady Tate, now in Summer of 2009 the third release titled “Thing I Wanted To Do” will be out with special guest Dave Samuels, Ludovic Beier & Jimmy Bosch.

Grammy Award nominated percussionist Wilson "Chembo" Corniel studied music at The Harbor Conservatory for the Performing Arts in New York City, Pastore Music in New Jersey, and also attended La Escuela National de Arte (ENA) in Havana, Cuba in 1997 and 1999 under the direction of Chucho Valdez.



Chembo is a member of the faculty at Purchase College and also teaches percussion privately. Chembo has had the pleasure of working, touring and/or recording with many artists such as Chucho Valdez, Larry Harlow, Tito Puente, Machito, Celia Cruz, Grady Tate, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Hilton Ruiz, Dave Valentin, Willie Colon, Angela Bofill, Steve Wilson, Ray Vega, Buddy Montogmery, Bob Baldwin, Chico Freeman and many more.



Chembo now leads his own Latin Jazz quintet Grupo Chaworo since October 2001 and also started his record company Chemboro Records. In 2004 Chembo landed a nomination from the 52nd NARAS Grammy Awards for his album, 'Things I Wanted To Do' for Best Latin Jazz Album in 2010.



Wilson "Chembo" Corniel has been an LP artist since 1982.
