Originally from Finland, Vicky Österberg. arrived in London, UK in 2010 to study drums. She recently received a BMus in Popular Music Performance from the prestigious contemporary music collage Tech Music School, University of West London. The past five years Vicky Österberg has been working actively as a freelance musician, playing with different acts both in Finland and the UK, including Kiss Off, the Mostar Diving Club and Dale Saunders. She is also the inventor of the music workshops RACUMA (Rhythm and Culture United Music Association) and is currently a part of a TV documentary called Girlpower@V_FemaleDrummer.
About Vicky Österberg
Vicky is a talented drummer who always tries to push her boundaries. Educated as a session musician she controls many different styles which is reflected in the palette of different bands she plays in, from Brazilian rhythms (Estrangeiros) to edgy pop grooves (Kiss Off).
Vicky Österberg is a multi instrumentalist and have studied piano, vocals and guitar before she found the passion for drums and percussion.
Vicky Österberg is also a composer and her creativeness is obvious in her pieces where she uses her own samples, odd time signatures and world influenced beats and melodies melted together in a unique way. She loves inventing instruments and turn everything in her surrounding into music. 2011 she got the “Top Overall Drummer” award from Tech Music School.
Through her affection for music Vicky Österberg has got involved in many different projects. During the past four years years she has ben developing RACUMA, music workshops for children with her partner Sofia Fri.
She is also starting up music camps for girls in Finland to inspire young women to become musicians.
Her heart beats for different cultures and music around the world and she is a participant in the cultural exchange programs, “Children crossing cultures” and “All cultures program”. Through the programs she has been traveling to different countries to share and exchange cultures. The latest project was in Flagstaff, Jamaica, February 2012. Future projects to USA and Dominica are in the pipe line.
Vicky Österberg has also been a part of a TV-series “Mitt Nya Land” (= My New Country), which was filmed in August 2012 in Finland and England and was launched in March 2013. She is currently a part of a TV documentary “Girlpower@V_FemaleDrummer”, which will be launched in the spring 2014.
