Tom Holkenborg, born on December 8th, 1967 in Lichtenvoorde, The Netherlands is best known as Junkie XL or JXL - DJ, producer, remixer and musician, delivering digital beats as well.
He comes from a family where everybody played two or three different instruments. When he was eight his parents bought Tom his first set of drums. By the time he was eleven years old, Tom was playing drums, bass, guitar and piano.
Junkie XL's name is based on what Tom Holkenborg described as his "studio-junkie" reputation. He's seen as a real workaholic. The XL is referring to the process of "eXpanding Limits" (of perception, reality, etc).
As a producer Tom has worked with acts like Nerve, Dog Eat Dog, Sepultura and Fear Factory. Beginning his career at the age of 14, Tom Holkenborg initially played in area funk and reggae units, later switching to alternative rock; while working in a music store, he first began experimenting with synthesizers and technology, and in 1996 won the Grand Prix of the Netherlands as best house music producer.
Tom Holkenborg is constantly putting out music in all directions - for advertisements, video games and movies like “Blade”, “Resident Evil” and “Matrix Reloaded”. He recently worked together with UK´s star-DJ Sasha for the album "Airdrawndagger", and Tom’s very own remix of the Elvis classic A Little Less Conversation, originally produced for a Nike advertisement in 2002, hit number one in 24 countries.
