Steve Wheeler plays drums in Zimmers Hole, featuring two members of Strapping Young Lad.
Steve was born and raised in North Vancouver, close to mountains and the ocean. The great outdoors has always been a strong interest. Reaching high school, it quickly became a meeting place and not so much a learning place ; having a bad attitude and rebelling against authority figures.
After some trouble with the law and a serious motorcycle accident Steve Wheeler moved to Tribons, B.C. where there wasn’t much to do except play guitar and work in construction. It was there that he teamed up with guitarist Brian Lumsden who was one of the only people there into heavy music. Musically at odds with the rest of the town they moved back to Vancouver. Jam sessions with five other guitarists and an empty drum kit led Steve to try drums and it was an instant passion. After selling his guitar amp and buying his first drum kit at age 19 Steve fromed at three-piece band with Brian called Curse. Pretty much a speed metal garage band for a couple of years until they split up after a personality conflict.
Shortly after that he joined a more ‘serious’ band called Exicision with two guitar playing brothers Andre and Marcel Shaubs. Steve Wheeler was involved in that band when he was approached by Chris Valagao to play a one-time show with Jed Simon and Byron Stroud. They had ten days to come with to come with a whole set and play live. This show went over surprisingly well and was so much fun they decided to keep the band going. Playing in both bands made Steve realize that having fun outweighed being serious so he stuck with the fun band which was to be known as Zimmer’s Hole.
