Born as Steven Arthur Mehlman in 1971 in Cleveland, Ohio, Teve began drumming at the age of ten. He started playing in local Cleveland bands in 1989.



Steve Mehlman joined Cleveland, Ohio based Pere Ubu in August 1995, replacing original drummer Scott Krauss and his temporary replacement Scott Benedict. Steve Mehlman was invited to drum for Pere Ubu ahead of the Raygun Suitcase tour. Steve Mehlman stayed until October 2002, and was followed up by Chris Cutler. However, in May 2005 Steve Mehlman rejoined the fold.



He recently performed in the Cleveland Public Theatre's production of "Hedwig and the Angry Inch.



Steve Mehlman graduated from Cleveland State University in May of 2001 with a B.S. in Chemistry (cum laude) and is currently working as a research chemist, focusing on powdered metals and rechargeable battery cathodes. He also plays drums in The Vivians and with Dave Cintron.



In addition to music, Steve Mehlman's short list of interests include snowboarding, and watching lots of TV.
