Savion Glover is a tap-happy percussionist. Tap virtuoso Savion Glover is best known as the dynamo of rhythmic tap dance, with a strong affinity for jazz. However, Glover was briefly a drummer himself, and percussion is his portal to the music.
Savion Glover danced alongside a jazz quartet featuring drummer Herlin Riley in "Jazz in Motion: Tappin' Into Monk," a tribute to Thelonious Monk.
In this show Savion Glover did a pair of duets with Herlin Riley, who strutted out from behind his trap set to strum a washboard and slap a tambourine. Several times during "Epistrophe," Glover used his right hand to pantomime a ride cymbal pattern; his feet tapped jauntily along, sounding more like a foley artist imitating a trotting mare.
