Thunder Rim, born in Ghana, West Africa as Samuel Mfojo - son of a drum maker, released his first cd, 'Thunder Rim', at age 71.
Samuel Mfojo/Thunder Rim studied how to play other instruments at the Eubanks Conservatory of Music Arts in Los Angeles in the 1970s. He also studied the business part of the music industry while in the United States.
During the 1960s, Thunder Rim's musical journey began when he was a part of the 16-member Uhuru Dance Band. He came to Los Angeles in 1973. Rim released an lp in the 1970s, titled 'Rim Arrives'.
During his career, Thunder Rim played with the late Fela Kuti, the Nigerian pioneer of Afrobeat music. He's also performed with Grammy Award-winning singer Deniece Williams, Grammy-winning American jazz saxophonist Pharoah Sanders and British singer-songwriter/guitarist and three-time Grammy nominee Joan Armatrading.
