Sam Holmstock is known from Entrain. Born just outside of Atlantic City, Sam is the son of a violinist and a dancer—who masqueraded as a short order cook and a career waitress. Sam sat at the feet of a guru in India for many years before returning to a life of contemplation and Haitian music on a secret island off the coast of Massachusetts. We can’t mention the name of the island, but its initials are Martha’s Vineyard.
Sam Holmstock’s musical development on the Vineyard included spending many years developing and working with a folkloric drumming ensemble called Die Kunst Der Drum. He also helped form regional world beat/jam band The Ululators. In between these gigs were weddings and Yacht Club parties ad nauseum.
And, of course, the nexus of all his musical training and exploration would be the advent of Entrain. A few of Sam Holmstock’s artistic influences are Frank Zappa, J.J. Johnson, Vinnie Nobile, Ray Copeland, Jerry Gonzales, and Gustav Holst. Personally, he has been profoundly influenced by Epiphany Jo Holmstock, Ajaib Singh, Forest Tomlinson, Josephine Holmstock, and the Hunt Brothers.
Some of his favorite things in life are Tongan Brass Music, living near the water, and being a dad. His hobbies include horticulture, kayaking, and double-secret vibrational healing.
