Ryan Pope drums in emocore band The Get Up Kids. Emocore is an especially melodic and angst-driven form of punk that emerged from Washington, D.C., in the mid to late eighties and revived in the late nineties. Pope replaced initial drummer Nathan Shay.



The group came together in Kansas City in 1994 with guitarist-vocalists Matthew Pryor, and Jim Suptic, bassist Rob Pope, and drummer Nathan Shay, who was replaced early on by Rob's kid brother and best friend Ryan.
