Ronny Scholten’s life in music starts when he is fourteen years old. The youngster decides to play a real drum kit instead of bashing all kinds of objects in his parents house. Good choice so it seems, because his talent skills come out practically immediately and Ronny starts to play in several local bands.
When Ronny is sixteen (!) he joins techno thrash outfit Sacrosanct (a Pestilence spin off featuring Randy Meinhard) to record his debut album. ‘Thruth is What is’ (Noise Records) means his first ‘gift’ to the music industry and metal in particular.
Ronny leaves Sacrosanct after a few years and at age nineteen starts Genetic Wisdom.
The band records their debut ‘The Fear Dimension’ (Mascot Records) in 1992 and reviews are anywhere from great to very bad, one thing however everybody seems to agree on are the exceptional talents of drummer Ronny Scholten. After some line up changes Genetic Wisdom records their second album ‘Humanity on Parole’ (Mascot, 1994) and the band’s hot instantly.
Great reviews, Mojo Concerts taking over all booking duties and tons of shows is what follows. With Genetic Wisdom, Ronny tours with the likes of Grip Inc (featuring Slayer’s Dave Lombardo), Motorhead, Phantom Blue, Vicious Rumors, Entombed, Gorefest and many many more.
There’s no big club in Holland this guy not conquer at some time. Sold out gigs in Paradiso, Noorderligt, Nighttown, Melkweg... you name it.
Along with the band success, Ronny’s personal skills are noticed even more within the industry and Remo USA (EMD Benelux) is prepared to endorse this war machine. Ronny is then voted one of Holland’s best metal drummers in ‘De Slagwerkkrant’ Holland has Ernst van Ee, Ed Warby and – yes indeed - Ronny Scholten.
Genetic Wisdom eventually split up and Ronny ended up drumming some local bands (Keyser Soze) for some years, turning away from the public scene a bit. Today there’s a new book to write in this drummer’s story! Early 2006, Ronny started the most brutal project so far; Why She Kills. Together with his former Genetic Wisdom band mates and partners in crime guitarists Peter Slootbeek and Ralph Roelvink, Ronny is ready to return to the national and international stages with this unique outfit.
It’s time for some amazing drumming again, time for brutality, speed and style. Time for Ronny Scholten.
