Inspired by bands as Nirvana and Metallica Roel started drumming at the relative late age of fifteen. Without taking any lessons Roel joined his first bands playing covers and later on, they start making their own songs. After a while he joined a punkrockband and with this band the first gigs were done.
After moving to a suburb of Rotterdam, Roel van der Sluis met some new musicians and became inspired by bands as Primus and Incubus. He started to take lessons at this point, because there was no improvement anymore. Taking drumlessons (by Remco Moens) was the right decision and things started to go better and better. He had to start all over again and he had to learn some serious rudiments, he’d never heard of before.
His next band was a more serious band, called Muego. When this band begun they played a mix of funk and rock. After a while everyone became influenced by bands as mr.Bungle and System of a Down. The band started in 2000 to make more experimental music and they recorded their first demo: “Semolina Beach”. -->
In 2002-2003 he played in Curfew, a crossoverband with references to Incubus, Faith No More, The Police and Primus.
Roel van der Sluis joined 'hipfunkjazzrockhop'
outfit GrilliG after initial drummer Jelle Schrooten had left the band. Jelle decided to primairy focus on his other band, Face Tomorrow.
Van der Sluis stayed with GrilliG until May 2004. Due to "structural miscommunication" he decided to depart. Pim van Ham (Pimba) replaced him behind the drum kit.
After his departure from GrilliG, Van der Sluis showed up in the Utrecht formation Te Water in January 2005. He stayed until December, and soon after showed up in metal outfit Blind Justice and coverband Superfudge.
