Rodney Holder joined up with Alchemist founding member Adam in 1989 and with another guitarist and bass player they performed their first shows together in 1989.
Previous to this Rodney Holder had been performing in his collage bands Brain Damage and Armageddon, but it wasn't until he met up with Adza that he he began to get serious. At the time Rodney Rodney Holder was very inspired by drummers like Dave Lombardo, Lars Ulrich and Neil Peart and was listening to a lot of metal music by bands such as Voi Vod, Destruction, Kreator, Coroner, Possessed and Megadeth.
However, Rodney Holder was also very interested in a lot of 60's, 70's and Psychadelia music and would chill out to Rush, Pink Floyd, later Beatles albums and Hendrix. Rodney was very much a metal drummers and enjoyed playing fast double kick and technically proficient thrash beats with intensity and passion.
Currently Rodney Holder is focussing on ethnic and tribal drumming to incorporate into his style.
Rodney Holder plays a Sonor Custom Pro Series 10", 12", 14" toms, 22" bass drum, Pearl 16" allow free floating snare with a Tama Iron Cobra Double bass peddle. (He'd really like to play a bigger kit but this one sounds great and is easy to take on the road).
He uses a variety of cymbals and is consistently replacing them as he seems to break them regularly. His usual set up is 16", 18" Crash, 10" splash, 18", 20" china, 20" ride, 14" heavy hi hats.
Rodney also has a Roland V Drum kit which he has performed with live but is usually used to rehearse and write with.
