Greenwich resident Robert "Bob" Vitti is a musician and drumline teacher, who was inducted into the World Drum Corps Hall of Fame in Rochester, N.Y. in September 2014.
Bob Vitti first began playing drums with the Greenwich Boys & Girls Club in 1960. He ended his performance career as a marching member of Hawthorne Muchachos.
Bob Vitti's years in the Drum Corps would eventually lead to drum training starting in the fourth grade in Greenwich Public Schools, lasting all the way through his years at Greenwich High School, from which he graduated in 1975. While he dabbled in other musical forms in his youth - he still has a deep love for big-band jazz - marching was always his focus.
After graduation, Bob Vitti decided to make a career of his passion for percussion. He received his master's degree in music education, and, in the 1980s, landed a job as director of bands at Port Chester High School in New York, where he has been ever since.
On the side, Bob Vitti continues his involvement in drum and bugle corps, including work with the Syracuse Brigadiers, who won five Drum Corps Associates world championships from 1999 to 2009. He also arranges for various Division II and III and independent corps in the tri-state area.
