Raphael Laport (real name: Raphael Miranda) plays drums in Sayowa, alongside percussionists Bernardo Badin and Roberto Colonese.



The drummer was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on September 1, 1980. He started playing drums at age 11.



He received drum lessons from Gustavo Schroeter, Alfredo Dias Gomes, and Joca Moraes.



Raphael names Lars Ulrich (Metallica), Igor Cavalera (Sepultura), Tony Williams, Dennis Chambers, James Brown and Jimmi Hendrix as sources of inspiration.



Comments Raphael Laport on the release of "Treme Terra":

"It's a really heavy album with lots of Brazilian influences. Besides the drum set there are two big drums, called “treme terra”. These big drums are used a lot in Brazil to play samba. It adds a lot of strength to the music with the heavy guitars. The Brazilian rhythms in songs such as “Terra de Ninguem” and “Straight to the Soul” give a different personality to the band's sound. The album sounds really raw and has participations of Andreas Kisser (Sepultura) on three songs and one song is mixed by Billy Graziadei (Biohazard)."
