Percussionist Peter Ulrich is probably best known for his collaboration with Dead Can Dance. Ulrich joined the group in 1983, recorded various albums with them and was a touring member of the group until 1990.
He also collaborated on Ivo Watts-Russell's This Mortal Coil project and also played Michael Brook and the Wolfgang Press as an incidental percussionist. Ulrich signed to Projekt Records. "Pathways and Dawns", his debut album for the label, featured Brendan Perry, his former Dead Can Dance bandmate, as a producer and arranger, but it's Ulrich's gifts as a composer, percussionist and vocalist that win over the listener.
Pathways and Dawns takes you on an expedition full of tribal drumming and chants, roaring horns, drifting marimba and flutes, African and flamenco guitars, bellowing Javanese gamelan, jamming Jajoukan pipes, Algerian Rai-inspired percussion, droning hurdy-gurdy and Ulrich's own distinctly understated vocals.
