Multi-percussionist, educator and instrument designer Paulo Mattioli played with Mickey Hart, Kenny Loggins, Lenny Kravitz, and Sting as well as performing, recording or co-teaching with African master drummers Babatunde Olatunge, Mamady Keita, Kemoko Sano, Dibo Camara and the top artists of Les Ballets Africains.
Paulo Mattioli was an active drum teacher and facilitator who led Rhythm Journey drumming and dance workshopsacross the United States, Europe, Asia, Australia and Mexico. He was thecreator of FitRhythms, an exercise program that combined the mind/bodybenefits of group drumming with aerobic movement.
Paulo Mattioli's djembe instructionbooks and dvds are published by Mel Bay, and he was the designer of the Paulo Mattioli Signature Series Djembe and Dun Dun drums for Remo.
Paulo Mattioli graduated with honors and held a bachelor's degree in music, communications and visual arts from the University of San Diego. Hereceived a U.S. scholarship for his research in the use of drumming forcommunication within West African culture.
Paulo Mattioli passed away Saturday, October 22, 2011 after a long and difficult battle with brain cancer. He was a much loved member of the drumming community and a dear friend and product supporter of Remo, Inc. He is survived by his three brothers; Sam, David and Michael, and two sisters; Maria and Nancy, and his dear Mother, Arlene.
