Paul Stanley McKenzie started playing drums in 2000. He is currently studying with Courtney Daniels. Paul plays drums with several school bands and also in his churches youth choir.

He plays at every opportunity he has, and is even at times found sneaking into clubs for over 21s! He says that this is only because there is nowhere for young musicians to not only hear, but also to get involved in playing live music. Paul's favourite drummers include Chris Bailey, Gareth Brown, Courtney Daniels and Gerald Heyward.

In February 2004 Paul Stanley-McKenzie came second in the UK Young Drummer of the Year competition. The contest was organised by MikeDolbear.com, a website dedicated to the drumming industry. Paul plays regularly for several school bands and is also in the youth group band at a church in Walthamstow. About the finals Paul said:

"It was a really good, action-packed day, and I can grow from the experience."

Only 14 years of age at the finals in 2004, Paul was the only player out of all twelve contestants to use a single pedal. Paul’s influence of Gerald Heyward was evident from the start. Mike Dolbear wrote:

"He did no soloing per se, playing only grooves. And man, did they cook! That’s not to say that he didn’t have speed, because when he went round the kit, his doubles and singles were fast! This chap had the right outlook, people were nodding and smiling the whole way through as he shuffled his beats and straightened them out with intensity and heart. In a display of showmanship, Paul even span his sticks during the grooves which made the crowd fall for him instantly."

In 2005 Paul Stanley McKenzie was the winning finalist of the Young Drummer of the Year and performed on the BBC's Blue Peter.

In 2008, Pauli was appointed the role as music director for MOBO award-winning artist Jahaziel and platinum selling artist Eliza Doolittle. They have also appeared in acclaimed music videos for Duffy, Jordin Sparks, Shingai Shinowa (Noisettes), Raghav and Mutya Buena (Sugababes/MKS).

In 2009, at age 20, Pauli started working with Gorillaz, which features the Grammy Award-winning cartoon band's music remixed to visual effects and toured with the outfit, playing corporate club shows and headlining festivals around the world. Playing with Gorillaz Sound System introduced Stanley-McKenzie to Africa Express, which led to his contribution in the collective's international shows and the Cultural Olympiad UK train tour, playing alongside Paul McCartney, John Paul Jones, and a host of African musicians including Tony Allen, Baaba Maal and Amadou and Miriam.

In January 2014, it was announced that Stanley-McKenzie would play drums for Damon Albarn on tour in support of his debut solo album Everyday Robots, alongside Seye, Jeff Wootton and Mike Smith.

Lovejoy served as the opening act for Irish rock band U2 during their 2023–2024 concert residency, U2:UV Achtung Baby Live, at Sphere in the Las Vegas Valley.[19] During the pre-show, they DJ'ed music from inside a neon Trabant that moved around the general admission area.
