Paul Jussen (Vaals, 1965) concluded in 1982 his education at the Music Academy of Voeren (Belgium) by gaining the Medal of the Belgian Government. From 1982 he studied percussion and timpani at the Conservatory of Maastricht under Pieter Janssen, Werner Otten, Ruud Wiener and Chris Dekker.
On this institute Paul Jussen passed his 'Uitvoerend Musicus' examination cum laude in 1990 and in the same year he has been awarded the Edmond Hustinx prize. He was principal timpanist of the National Youth Orchestra from 1986 to 1988.
In October 1988 he was appointed as timpanist and percussionist with the Radio Filharmonisch Orkest Holland. From 2003 Paul Jussen is principal timpanist of this orchestra.
As a soloist Paul Jussen participated with his colleagues in 'Manhattan Concerto' by Siegfried Matthus, 'From me flows what you call time' by Toru Takemitsu and 'Saint François d'Assise' by Olivier Messiaen.
