Artist biography Ofri Nehemya
The super talented Ofri Nehemya was born in Israel and lives in the town of Givatayim. He started playing the drums when he was very young, coming from a musical family; his father a professional drummer and his mother, a singer. Ofri graduated from the Thelma-Yellin School for Arts, where he played with a big band for four years and took part in many ensembles. During his high-school years, he had the chance to play with a lot of jazz musicians including Aaron Goldberg, Reuben Rogers, Eli Degibri, Amos Hoffman, Daniel Zamir, Ofer Ganor, Amit Friedman, Omri Mor and many others.
In the summer of 2011 he took part in a 5 week workshop at the Berklee College of Music, Boston, USA, under the musical direction of Terri Lyne Carrington and Ralph Petersson, gaining a full four year scholarship. Ofri was also the recipient for the 'Keren Sharet' scholarship award in Israel from 2004 to 2013. In recent years he has taken part in many events and festivals including; Red Sea Jazz Festival, Jerusalem Jazz Festival, Madrid Jazz Festival, and many more.
Recently he recorded a jazz album with Tomer Bar, named 'Local Groove'. Nowadays, Ofri is serving in the IDF in a program for excellent music and tours with the band of international acclaimed bassist and composer Avishai Cohen throughout 2013.
