Moijssa 'Balla' Sidibe plays timbales in Orchestra Baobab, a combo which exists for more than thirty years, also featuring Mountaga Koite on drums and congas.
One of the founder members of Baobab, Moijssa Sidibe is from the southern province of Casamance where he joined the UCAS band in 1965.
After a spell in the army he decided to pursue his chosen career as a musician, despite much opposition from his family. It proved to be the right decision he soon began working in several of Senegals top bands including the Palladium, the Standard (where he met Barthelemy Attisso and Rudy Gomis) and the Star Band.
He remained with Baobab until its dissolution in 1987 and was on the verge of retiring from music in 1991 but was persuaded by his children to carry on.
