Mike Wallace is probably best known as drummer for Canadian post-punk band Viet Cong. He also has a side-project, called LA Cops.
Previously Mike Wallace and Viet Cong vocalist/bassist Matt Flegel played in rock band Women, but that group entered an indefinite hiatus in 2010 after an onstage fight.
Mike has also played in Friendo, and done live shows with Porcelain Raft.
Despite the obvious talent for drumming at a pretty early stage of life Michael Wallace didn't get a drum kit before he was in the 8th grade. Before that he'd just played whatever was near him, and was able to make noise. Michael is pretty much self-taught: "I didn't really get any proper training until I went to India and started studying the tabla." Michael was 20 when he went to India on his first trip, living with and studying from the guru Pandit Samar Saha. Mike: "Some of the classic legends went to school and studied the shit, but most of my favourite ones are just innovative as fuck, or just crazy, or got in the right band, and somehow they’re legendary, i think that appeals to me a lot!"
