Mike Shapiro is drummer, percussionist, producer and educator. He is also the author of 'Beat This', the first in a series of comprehensive, step by step drum set method.
Mike Shapiro began studying drums at the age of eight with Charles Perry, author of a renowned series of drum method books. Through the years he studied with various musicians, including Saul Goodman, Roland Kohloff, Buster Bailey, Morris Lang, David Garibaldi and Michael Carvin.
Mike Shapiro has a bachelor of music degree from The Julliard School. His studies included every percussion genre from rock to jazz to classical and world music.
Throughout an extensive career that includes studio work and performance with Forever Dusty The Musical, Todd Rundgren, Marcellus Hall, Robbie Dupree, John Hall, Rick Danko, Genya Ravan, Dakota Staton, Evidence, Wynton Marsalis, Pierre Boulez, Zubin Mehta and Leonard Bernstein, Mike Shapiro has always been teaching.
For twenty years he has been developing his own teaching method through private studio, classroom and ensemble instruction.
