Mike Patrum is from Kansas City and joined Proto Kaw in the winter of 2005. Mike credits his whole family for the lifelong love of music he brings to Proto-Kaw. The sound of drumming was always resonating from the Patrum home while Mike was growing up.



Mike Patrum's father Mike Sr., himself an accomplished drummer, became young Mike’s first teacher and greatest inspiration. Mike majored in music at Garden City Community College and The University of Kansas.



Jazz legend Todd Strait privately taught Mike many of the phenomenal chops that he now mixes into his eclectic repertoire.



Mike Patrum has played professionally with several midwest bands, including The KC All Stars. His musical influences include the likes of Steve Gadd, Dennis Chambers, Neil Peart of Rush, and of course Todd Strait.
