Michael Von Knorring was born in Gothenburg, Sweden in 1959. Michael's father, a conductor, plays drums as well but wanted his son to play violin and piano and trumpet, but Michael wanted to play drums.
Michael Von Knorring started with real lessons 1974. His teacher at that time was Bjorn Bang at Gothenburg Opera-house. His second teacher was Ojvind Eigard, also at Opera-house. He learned Michael stick-control on the snare-drum.
Michael Von Knorring's first band was a Swedish group called Public, produced by Clas af Geijerstam from ABBA. Secondly he played with Swedish singer Annelie Ryd'e. Then he switched back to hardrock in a band known as Norden Light.
In 1989, Michael started to play with Yngwie Malmsteen on Eclipse album and a little on tour.
In 2002 he played on a Jason Becker tribute, and on a Mistheria album.
Michael Von Knorring also records with various artists, plus he currently plays with a local band, performing live at various clubs.
He names Ian Paice, Cozy Powell, John Bonham, Jimi Hendrix, Ritchie Blackmore, Yngwie Malmsteen, Alan Holdsworth, and Mats Olausson as musical influences.
