Michael was born in 1986 in the Netherlands (where he still lives). After starting to play piano he always dreamed to become a drummer. In 1995 he saved enough money to buy his own drumkit and started to take lessons on drums & percussion. As piano, drums and percussion weren't enough for Michael he tought himself to play guitar. Out of these instruments he sees the drumkit as his main instrument.
Michael: "I'm not the solo-kind-of-drummer. Watching other drummers doing solos has always moved me, but it's not the kind of stuff I'm really into when I’m playing drums myself. Ok, sometimes I just love to do just play the drums when no other musicians are playing along, but it’s not my cup of tea. The drummers that gain the most respect from me are the drummers who lay down groovy beats with not too much fills.
I used to put fills on the toms after about every 3-measures, doing rolls and wild stuff on the toms. After hearing back some recordings where I did that kind of stuff, I realized that the fills distracted the listener from listening to the songs.
From that point on I've always been working on my tempo and the 'groove'. In my opinion a drummer must groove and must be able to let his other bandmembers as well as the audience groove. For every musician, the point on from where his playing grooves is different and that's cool. Cause if every musician thinks the same, the music bussiness would be pretty boring."
Combining rock, breakbeat, modern-jazz, pop and hip-hop into his own playing style, Michael is ready to lay down some serious grooves to show to the world.
Next to making music, Michael is also recording other bands and artists. Building websites and designing graphics is another thing he loves to do. The other thing he’s busy with is building drums with his company MMC Drums. Check the portfolio for all instruments, sites, graphics and recordings he made.
Michael’s favourite artists are Phil Collins, Michelle Branch, Jessica Harp (the wreckers of course), Bryan Adams and Train.
Michael currently plays drums in Avian and guitar in 2nd Avenue.
