Mark McKaye was the initial drummer in Boston's hardcore pride Slapshot.
The band was about to tour the US in the fall of 1992 when Mark McKaye told the band that he couldn't join the rest of the band. Barry Hite, the drummer from a band called Slaughter Shack [which included ex-DYS guitar-player Andy Strachan] whoewere friends with Slaposhot, filled in for the tour.
When the band came back frontman and vocalist Jack Kelly didn't want Mark back. Kelly thought Barry Hite was a much better drummer and Mark McKaye didn't seem like he wanted to come back. However, there was never an official split.
Around 1993 relations were tensed in the band at the time. Chris Lauria wasn't getting along with Barry Hite, Barry Hite wasn't getting along with Jack Kelly. And then, tragically, Jordan Wood committed suicide June 7th 1994.
Initial drummer Mark McKaye, vocalist Jack Kelly and basist Chris Lauria were reunited for the funeral, but guitarist Steve Risteen was out of the country at the time. Once again Chris Lauria tried to convince Jack Kelly to get Mark McKaye back, but Jack Kelly wasn't interested.
When the band got back from a European tour in 1994, Chris Lauria managed to convince Jack Kelly to get Mark McKaye back.
However, as the band set off in August 1995 on their most ambitious tour to date in support of "16 Valve Hate", it weas without McKaye. Doug McKinnon [ex Vandals] was filling in for Mark McKaye.
Yet McKaye was rejoining the band for the recording of their 2005 album "Tear It Down".
