Mark Garza was born in Arlington, Texas. He started playing drums when he was 13 years old. He focused on snare drum, primarily, at first then graduated to a small kit. Mark: "In high school, I played everything I could get my hands on, from marching snare and drum kits to quads and performing in the Orchestral percussion section. I briefly attempted corps until I was bitten by the band bug."
Mark was drummer in Embodyment, a Christian metalcore band which formed in 1993 and were first known by the name Supplication. Embodyment disbanded in early 2004 after the release of three albums.
In 2007 Kris McCaddon (vocals), Andrew Godwin (guitar), and Mark Garza (drums) reconvened as The Famine.
In April 2011 Mark Garza issued a statement confirming that he had quit the band with no immediate plans for new projects.
