Skeletor; Dr. Death; Mr. Superthighs: all these nicknames refer to just one person: Alter Ego X drummer Marcel Heessels.
Born on February 21st, 1972, Marcel joined the band in the fall of 1991, after he and Chris van Uden (the evil genius of the band) were in the same class in teacherschool. Neither of them finished this education, as good rockstars should. In 1993, Marcel left the band, but returned when the band reformed in 2002, and returned better than ever, may we say.
The Second Coming marks Marcels’ debut on a CD, however, he contributed a song for the first album, “ I Won’t Survive” for which he co-wrote the lyrics with Chris. Of course the song was written during Marcels’ first period with the band. He also played on the demo’s the band cut prior to their first release. Marcel Heesels’s main influence is famous dutch drummer Ome Willem (real name: Edwin Rutten), who inspired Marcel to start playing drums. Even today, Marcel can still play all his breaks, and quite regulary he plays them at the soundchecks.
Marcels’ drumming is always as tight as a teen-girls' ass, but at times he can get so caught up in the intense performances the band does, that there is a severe possibility that members of both the band and the audience can get hit by one of his drumsticks. Quite convenient, he always keeps fresh new drumsticks within his reach….
In October 2005 Marcel Heessels claimed a lack of time and departed from Alter Ego X. He was followed up by Sander Glas.
