One handed drummer Ludas (real name: Ludo Hasenbos) plays in Dutch black metallers SauroN, Funeral Goat and Abysmal Darkening. He replaced initial drummer Dennis v/d Pol in Sauron in 1997. With his drumstick taped to his left arm he produces the 'blastphemy' SauroN is well-known for. Other bands he played in are Melech, Domestic Violence and Botulistum.
Actually Ludas never took any official lessons though he learned techniques from Marco Stubbe (Flesh Made Sin), Andries van den Boom, and Erwin (Rockacademie). Ludo:
"I started drumming as a joke, because I miss my left hand. But than after jamming some time (using strings to attach the stick to my wrist) with a friend, who played guitar, back in ’92, it became more and more serious. The first period, from 1993 till 1997, I was only focussing on going fast. In this time I developed a decent stickholder for my wrist (which is made from denim and shoelaces, haha). When I started drumming in SauroN in 1997, it all became more serious (and faster)"
As the band recorded studio material, Ludas decided to have some sessions with fellow drummers to get more technical skills.
He was asked to drum in Deströyer 666 in 2001. First to replace a drummer that didn’t show up at a live gig, and afterwards for permanent use. However, he had to refuse due to lack of time, and he did not want to stop with SauroN.
In 2000/2002 Ludas played in another band, Domestic Violence, for fun. The drummer continues: "It was kind of trash/death orientated. But it became more and more clearly things wouldn’t work out with that band, so I quitted. Right now my main band still is SauroN. We are working on our second album, scheduled for release september 2004 on Neurotic Records. I will also drum live with Botulistum, a blackmetal project."
Since 2003 Ludas also plays in a band called Abysmal Darkening, though he does not drum but fills the vocal position.
In 2008 SauroN stopped due to various reasons. Ludas still plays in Funeral Goat, which just released their first album, Mass Ov Perversion.
He now also plays the drums in Abysmal Darkening who just recorded their first album, which will be released in 2010 on Doom label Total Rust (Israel).
