Larry Howe's father was a jazz musician who played with Dixieland greats such as Turk Murphy. No wonder Larry Howe began playing drums at the age of 9. With his Dad’s band rehearsals in the living room and by always helping his Dad load equipment, it was inevitable that Larry would be a musician himself.



Playing in the School Band proved to be a great initiative. Road trips with the School Bands, both Marching and Jazz were a hint of what was to come. The music teachers’ main message was that listening was the best way to learn. Listen he did, to the likes of Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and other progressive bands such as Yes and U.K.. All having a distinct impression on how to approach playing drums in a style he could call his own.



After playing in numerous bands locally, some cover and some original, Larry decided to join up with a heavy metal group in 1985 called Vicious Rumors. The band went on to release some of the best 'power metal' ever written. With the most incredible metal singer who ever lived, Carl Albert, the very talented Mark Mcgee on lead guitar and headed by its original member Geoff Thorpe, the band went on to record 10 albums with at least 10 world tours including Germany, Holland, much of Europe and North America. The pinnacle of success seemed to come in Japan in 1992 with some sold out shows in Tokyo and Osaka where they were treated to some of the most dedicated fans a band could ask for.



As the music scene changed from metal to grunge, the band was dropped by Atlantic Records. After an independent release and a few more tours, things seemed to slow a bit for the band. Shortly after the departure of Mark McGee who to joined up with the Greg Allman Band, the most tragic of all happened. Carl Albert was killed in a car accident in 1995.



Slugging it out for two more releases and a few more tours through Europe with the likes of Accept and Blind Guardian (a very popular German metal band), Larry decided to part ways with the band. Having married the beautiful and talented singer of Chastain, Kate French, raising a family became more of a priority. Atma Anur replaced Howe in Vicious Rumors.



While preparing for a future release with the band, Larry says:

"Performing with Hot For Teacher, playing great American Rock-n-Roll seemed just fine. Hot For Teacher gives me the chance to play with ferocity and intensity! Playing Van Halen’s music is a great challenge to be met, both physically and vocally. Not to mention a whole lot of fun!"

In november 2003 Larry decided to join up with Chastain. With this band Howe released an album in 2004 but rejoined San Francisco Bay Area power metallers Vicious Rumors in Januray 2005.
