Larry Crowe is a drummer and professional drum tech based in the Los Angeles area. While still playing as much as he can, Larry Crowe has developed a reputation as top drum tech for some of the best players in the world, including Simon Phillips, Jim Keltner, John "JR" Robinson, Narada Michael Walden and Sheila E., to name a few.
Larry Crowe spends most of his time, however, working with Vinnie Colaiuta. He is currently on tour with Vinnie working with Jeff Beck.
Biography:
Larry Crowe was born in Vancouver, B.C. He has been playing the drums since the age of thirteen. He has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in music from York University, Toronto, Canada.
In 1983 Larry Crowe received a grant from the Canada Council to study at the Banff School of Fine Arts whose faculty included Dave Holland, Dave Leibman, John Abercrombie, Anthony Braxton, and Kenny Wheeler.
Larry Crowe has studied drums with Claude Ranger and Barry Elmes and Theory and Vibraphone with Stacey Hearsh. Larry has performed in Canada, the United States, Europe, Central America, the Caribbean, and throughout Asia.
Larry Crowe has performed and recorded in many musical settings and with various artists like Ron Korb (World/New Age), Robert Michaels (Latin Jazz), Random Chants (Rock), The Lawn Jockies (Rock), The Beat Kings (Rhythm and Blues), Charlie Roby (World/Folk), Jim Italiano (Roots Rock) and The DNA Trio (Jazz/Folk).
Larry Crowe has also performed with musical theatre shows like "On The Eighth Day" and "Menopause Out Loud". As a composer and songwriter, Larry has produced and written music for singers and bands in the popular music field. As well as, instrumental pieces for media, advertising and Children's music.
Larry Crowe co-engineered, co-wrote the song "Holding On" and played percussion on Robert Michaels' "Allegro" album which won a Juno award for Best Instrumental Album in 2003.
Larry Crowe has been teaching drums for over ten years in the Toronto area. He is currently working on a drum method book and composing music for some up and coming projects.
