Multi-sintrumentalist (drums and guitar among others) and composer Larry Byrom's musical odyssey began in Huntsville, Alabama when he quit school in the 11th grade to join a band in California called Hard Times. Larry performed with the band on a network television show called "Where The Action Is" for about two years before joining Steppenwolf in 1968.
Larry Byrom played guitar with the group and contributed several songs that were recorded by the group. Two of the songs reached the top 40; "Hey Lawdy Mama" went to #35 in 1970 and "Monster" had reached #39 the year before. Steppenwolf performed at shows with other big name acts such as, Paul Simon, Creedence Claearwater Revival and Janis Joplin. For a while he and Jimi Hendrix were dating the same girl, giving him the opportunity to sit in and jam with the legendary guitarist.
After four years, Larry Byrom left Steppenwolf in 1972 and returned to Alabama. While in the Shoals area, he got into some studio work with Barry Beckett and others. After a brief stint in Los Angeles, Byrom landed in Nashville where his guitar work was in demand in the studios.
Larry Byrom's songwriting talents have been directed toward country music resulting in numerous cuts, including the #10 hit "Feel Right" by Tanya Tucker in 1983.
Larry Byrom recorded electric drums and guitar for Shania Twain.
