"Mark and Mikey, the singer, and one of the guitar players, had the band going for about three years with different members and different lineups. Dave and Tim had a band called Juice. I was playing in a band called Videodrone and all our bands basically fell apart at the same time. The four of them got together and wrote some songs and were about to do a demo. They needed a drummer so they called me. They came over to my apartment, played me some songs, and I was blown away. I asked if I could be in the band right there. So, I was basically in the band before we even played together or anything. The next day we rehearsed and it felt like we had been playing together for ten years. It was pretty cool. That demo that we did, ended up getting us our record deal."For the recording of Adema's debut album Kohls mainly used acoustic drums. A lot of the electronic stuff you hear on it was done by Bill Appleberry, one of the producers. He would come up with a lot of the electronic stuff, which Kris Kohls reproduces live. Comments Kohls:"But the reason why I played mainly acoustic drums is because Videodrone was so electronic. I played mainly V Drums and very little acoustic drums in that band. I was pretty much sick of that. I wanted to play acoustic drums and slam them as hard I could. The producers were totally cool with that. I would say I played 95 to 98 percent acoustic drums on the album."Previously to Adema Kris played in band called Cradle Of Thorns, which he was in for ten years prior to Videodrone. Videodrone was basically the same band, they just changed the name.
