Jazz drummer Kris Duerinckx (Louvain, 1968) started playing the drums at the age of 17. After finishing his (non-musical) studies in Leuven, he went to the Jazz Studio in Antwerp. In his first year as a student, some of his teachers, including Peter Hertmans, David Crane, Jan Muës, already started asking him for concerts. After 3 years as a student, he became a teacher at the Jazz Studio himself.
Kris Duerinckx recorded a first cd, played with most of the Belgian Jazz musicians and did some performances for the Belgian Radio and Television.
Because of his versatility, you’ll find Kris Duerinckx playing as well in the straight-ahead jazz, modern jazz, free jazz and odd meter scenes as with big bands and sometimes pop- and rock musicians. He has got a great technique at the instrument and according to the musical setting of the moment, he’ll play very subtle or with overwhelming energy and push the music towards a higher level of ecstasy.
Kris Duerinckx has also played concerts with Lew Tabackin (USA), Mark Turner (USA), Mark Levine (USA), and André Goudbeek (NL).
