Percussionist Ju Tzong-Ching is one of the most successful and internationally famous musicians from Taiwan.
As president of the Taipei National University of the Arts as well as the founder of Ju Percussion Group, Ju has been synonymous with the development of percussion in Taiwan for more than 20 years.
Ju Tzong-Ching was the first Taiwanese musician to be honored with the lifetime award from the Percussive Arts Society (PAS).
Ju Tzong-Ching studied in Vienna under Walter Veigl and Richard Hochrainer.
He received his Diploma of Music Performer in Percussion from the Vienna Academy of Music in Austria in 1982, the first musician from Taiwan to receive such a diploma.
After returning to Taiwan, Ju Tzong-Ching started a percussion performance and education career. During that period, he was not only teaching at school, but also setting up the“Ju Percussion Group”in the year of 1986, the first percussion ensemble established in Taiwan.
Ju Group has staged over 2,000 performances in Europe, the U.S., Asia and Australia.
In the field of education, Ju's first innovation was to include percussion as a required course in the music programs at some universities where it was originally offered only as an elective course.
From the campus scene to professional performances, Ju Tzong-Ching has promoted percussion development here in order to show the world the quality of Taiwan percussion.
One of the most famous achievements Ju Tzong-Ching promotes is the Taipei International Percussion Convention(TIPC), which is held every three years.
