Born 03 /08/ 57 in Frauenfeld, Switzerland, Joris took private piano lessons at age 12 after moving to Vienna, Austria. At age 14 he received some private drum lessons. Also, for a short time, he attended jazz theory and arrangement at the Vienna Conservatory. But generally said, he is what you would call, a self-taught musician.
Besides beeing a member of the Vienna Art Orchestra and the Art Farmer Quintet for many years, he recorded and performed with many of the greatest jazzartists of this time: Benny Bailey, Benny Golson, Jerry Bergonzi, Don Bradon, Johnny Griffin,Craig Handy,Tom Harell, Eddie Henderson, Joe Henderson, Vincent Herring, Dave Kikowsky, Joe Lovano, Sal Nistico, Mickey Tucker, Harold Vick, Joe Zawinul and many others.
He has been professor at the Bruckner Private University in Linz, Austria since 1993.
