John Bishop's drumming is a regular feature at all of the leading jazz festivals, clubs and studios in the Northwest. He has played with jazz greats such as Bobby McFerrin; Slide Hampton; Benny Golson; George Cables; Kenny Werner; Eddie Daniels; Joanne Brackeen; Carla Bley; Steve Swallow; Kenny Rankin; and countless others.
Bishop has appeared on over 60 albums and projects, including sessions with Rudy Van Gelder, Ernie Watts, Ralph Towner and Teo Macero. He appeared on a Grammy-nominated CD with Mark Murphy for RCA, as well as on educational videos for REH/Warner Bros. and documentaries for PBS.
Bishop regularly performs, tours and records with the 15 year-old New Stories trio he formed with two other prominent Northwest artists: pianist Marc Seales and bassist Doug Miller. They were the featured act at the 1993 JVC Jazz Festival in Vladivostok, Russia; they've shared the stage with Tom Harrell, Branford Marsalis, Jon Faddis and Larry Coryell among many others; and music from their three critically acclaimed recordings has been featured in Microsoft's Windows XP Operating System and on a Universal Music release entitled "Repertoire: A Starbuck's Collection of Unforgettable Piano Jazz."
In 1997, Bishop formed Origin Records, a jazz record label; and OriginArts, a CD production/design house, to help further the exposure of Northwest artists and their music.
