John Albert played drums with Bad Religion between 1984-1985, replacing previous drummers Davy Goldman (1983) and Jay Ziskrout (1980-1982). Albert was followed up by Keith "Lucky" Lehrer.
John Albert also cofounded the semilegendary cross-dressing band Christian Death. Albert currently lives in Los Angeles. As a writer he has contributed to LA Weekly, Hustler, and BlackBook, among others. He won the Best of the West Journalism Best Sports Writing Award in 2000, for the LA Weekly article from which Wrecking Crew derived.
August 2005 saw the release of his book "The Really Bad News Griffith Park Pirates", about Albert, an out-of-work screenwriter, former punk rock drummer and heroin addict, who creates an engrossing chronicle of his baseball teammates' search for the American dream. Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea stated: "I loved Wrecking Crew. It is my story too. John Albert put it all together, he is a great original voice from L.A.'s wasteland."
