Joey Bumpus plays drums with Lady Gaga and Brandy, among others.



Joey started playing drums when he was about 3 or 4 years old back in church: "My dad used to play the organ and I grew interested in the drummer in the chorus. Like everybody else I played on the couches and on pots and pans. In church they let me play the last song. I would play standing up with one hand and one foot just keeping the rhythm. Then eventually the drummer of the church left and they just threw me in the fire. A lot of the time that’s when you learn your thing because you almost have to."



Joey Bumpus names local Bay area drummer Robert Anderson, Teddy Campbell, Gerald Heyward, Chris Johnson, Mike Neuble and Mike Clemmons as inspirational drummers.
