Joel Ekman is co-founder and drummer of Stone Sour, the band featuring Slipknot singer Corey Taylor and guitarist Jim Root.
In 2002 the band released their self-titled debut, which went gold and featured the hit single, Bother.
During the recordings of Stone Sour's sophomore album, Joel Ekman's nine-year-old son, diagnosed with brain cancer, got very sick. The drummer decided to leave the recordings and parted ways with Stone Sour in 2006 in order to take care of his son, Isaac James Ekman.
Joel was followed up by Roy Mayorga (Soulfly, Sepultura) to finish the drum tracks.
Isaac soon died, and Joel suggested using Isaac James as his new band's name in memory of his son.
