Joe Cangelosi joined New Jersey's thrashmetallers Whiplash after initial drummer Tony Scaglione left to join Slayer in 1986.
Whiplash and Scaglione reunited in the mid-90s with Warren Conditi (guitar/vocals), James Preziosa (bass) and Rob Gonzo (vocals) to record "Cult Of One". For the band's next album Scaglione was replaced by Bob Candella. The original line-up was reunited for one final time in 1998, resulting in the album "Thrashback".
Joe Cangelosi also drummed on Kreator's 1995 release "Cause for Conflict", replacing initial Kreator-drummer Jürgen Reil, better known as Ventor.
