Joanna Dabrowska is the Principal Timpanist of the Washington Metropolitan Philharmonic based in Alexandria, VA, and also performs with various groups throughout the Baltimore-Washington DC Metro, including the McLean Orchestra, Brass of the Potomac, and the Capital City Symphony.



Joanna Dabrowska serves as Percussion Faculty at the International School of Music in Bethesda, MD. She is the Founder and Music Director of the Mercury Rising Percussion Ensemble, which is a supplemental program open to all percussion students that provides opportunities for students to perform in one of two ensembles based on experience. Beginning in 2010, she will also direct the ISM Percussion Ensemble.



Joanna Dabrowska recently commissioned and premiered James Kazik's Percussion Concerto. In this composition, the soloist is featured on marimba, vibraphone, concert toms, bass drum, and brake drums. She also performed as a soloist in the World Premiere of Philip Glass' Concerto Fantasy for Two Timpanists and Wind Ensemble, with Jonathan Haas and the Peabody Wind Ensemble.



Joanna Dabrowska may be heard on various recordings with groups such as the Brass of the Potomac, Washington National Cathedral Choir, American Boychoir, Peabody Wind Ensemble, and the Peabody Percussion Ensemble. She has also recorded with the Sean McArdle band as well as Dennis Kane.



Joanna Dabrowska earned her Bachelor of Music in Percussion Performance from the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University. At the Peabody Conservatory, Joanna Dabrowska studied with Jonathan Haas and Paul Fadoul. Her previous instructors include William Trigg and Mark Bencivengo.



Joanna Dabrowska offers private percussion lessons in various locations, with emphasis on general percussion, drumset, timpani, and all mallet instruments.
