By the time he arrived in Washington DC, Jimmy Jackson had also spent a number of years on the New York jazz scene, where he developed a strong reputation as a deft player with a convivial spirit and an incorrigible wit.
More recently Jimmy Jackson stepped to the front as leader with his debut recording 'On My Way Home', a tribute to Cannonball Adderley and Nancy Wilson.
